Vic Park Flexi Tournament

A group photo of our players, who played in the Victoria Park Flexi Tournament the weekend before last.

It was level play against some top players, which gave our members a weekend of learning from some of the best. Well done to our players.

Croquet Pennants

Tuesday night pennants last week was held at East Fremantle. Sorrento Croquet players were made very welcome on a beautiful night to play – chilly, but no wind or rain.

The greens were heavier than what we were used to, which meant hitting the ball that much harder to reach our target. East Fremantle were the better team on the night and we finished the evening with a feast for supper.

Mandurah Competition

Players from Sorrento Croquet Club competed in a B grade competition at Mandurah Croquet Club on the weekend.

Our players are predominately C & D grade, with one of our players only having played croquet for a couple of months and three others having played less than a year.

Considering the competition they were up against, Jenny Wilmot and Cheryl Saul did an amazing job of taking out second place, winning nine of their eleven games.

Well done to all the players who represented our Club.

Croquet Bowls

Last Wednesday our Croquet players started out the day with a game of Croquet Bowls.

Using a golf ball as the Jack, the idea was to place your croquet ball as close to the jack as possible, only hitting the jack if it was to your advantage. Some players got very serious in the measuring to see who had won! This was a good game for players to practice the placement balls.

After the game, players went inside to enjoy some pizza and the presentation of 2020/2021 awards and trophies.

New Croquet Club

Earlier this year a new Croquet Club opened in Belmont WA, attracting many new players to the game.

On the weekend, Belmont hosted a Croquetwest event of Golf Croquet Doubles.

Many clubs participated on the day, including six players from Sorrento – Jenny Wilmot, Cheryl Saul, Lorraine Bates, Wendy Price, Jan Craddock and Terry Craddock (pictured).

It was one of the coldest weekends we have had, with Sunday seeing them all in four layers of clothing and wet weather gear! The general feeling among players was although it was a cold and wet weekend. it was a lot of fun and a great way to support a new Club.

Masters and Apprentices

On Saturday 19th June, our Croquet club held their “Masters and Apprentices “ Club tournament.  A chilly start to the day, turned into a beautiful day.

Players with less than two years’ experience were teamed up with more experienced players. The average experience of the Apprentices was less than 7-8 months, with one player just having played just six times previously. Games were timed at 40 minutes and each player had 7 games.

The winners were Sandy Boon and Steve West (Steve being a member for 4 months) pictured above. Runners up were Di McGivern and Rose Gannaway (Rose being a member for 6 months).

Well done to all participants!

Croquet Weekend

Five of our new Croquet members made the decision to venture out and play at other clubs recently.

Staying down at Mandurah for the weekend, the players enjoyed some games at Mandurah Croquet Club. The day included a lovely morning tea, and Mandurah members also joined Sorrento for a late lunch.

On the Sunday afternoon, our players went to Halls Head and played with two ex-Sorrento members, Derek and Gwen Freeman, with a little extra coaching from Sheila Twine.

A great weekend was had by the five ladies and considering the wet weather they were lucky to escape dry!

CroquetWest Singles

Sorrento Croquet members recently competed in the CroquetWest GC One-Day C-Grade Singles.

Congratulations to Terry Craddock who not only made the finals, but ended up taking out second place in the competition. A huge achievement, well done Terry!

World Croquet Day

World Croquet Day was held recently at Nedlands Croquet Club.

Sorrento was well represented by our awesome foursome – Jenny Wilmot, Cheryl Saul, Jan Craddock and Terry Craddock.

A lot of fun games were held on the day along with an exhibition from our State players. Congratulations to Terry who won the lucky mallet draw.

Croquet Tournament

The weekend of 27th and 28th March saw Sorrento Croquet Club host an Interclub Golf Doubles Tournament, welcoming players from Narrogin, Cambridge, Forest Park and Bunbury.

Over two days all players enjoyed the competition and fellowship, sharing a light snack on completion of the games on Sunday.

Sorrento took out the prizes for the weekend with first place going to Jan and Terry Craddock, and second place to Di McGivern and Lorraine Bates.

Thank you to all the players, helpers and spectators who made our tournament weekend a great success.

Golf Croquet Club Singles

In March we held our Club Singles Championships for Golf Croquet and it was good to see a couple of our newer members participate.

Congratulations go to Jenny Wilmot who took out first place. Runner Up was very close with Jan Craddock taking second place, only just beating new player Wendy Price by 5 points.
