Constitution of the Club

All incorporated associations like Sorrento are required to have a constitution under the Associations Incorporations Act 2015.

The Constitution explains to members and non-members what you’re the Club is about; provides guidelines for the daily running of the Club; provides guidance for the resolution of internal problems; and supports the Club’s liquor licence.

Sorrento’s original Constitution developed in 1976 has been amended over the years. The most recent amendment was in June 2022.

By Laws of the Club

A constitution can be made up of two parts; the rules which include the basic principles of the group and can be changed only by a general meeting; and the regulations or by-laws which can be changed by the Governing Council.

Many aspects of Sorrento’s operation are more easily handled outside the formality of the Constitution rules such as the conduct of Club activities and additional non-administrative rules.

Sorrento’s by-laws are reviewed regularly to reflect changing circumstances and conditions. The most recent changes were in 2019.

A Guide to the Etiquette of Lawn Bowls has been produced by Sorrento Bowling Club as part of inducting new bowlers into the Club.

This guide needs to be read in the context of any other conditions of play such as Field of Play, General Conditions or other local conditions applicable to the game being played, and goes hand in hand with the Club’s Code of Conduct.
