Women’s Novice Championship
The Women’s Novice Championship was held on Sunday 5th February before a large and supportive crowd, with three players challenging for the trophy.
Round 1: Jodi Neindorf v Shonah Buckley. With Jodi leading just 7-6 after the 9th end, the game was promising to be close. However, winning 7 of the next 8 ends saw Jodi with a commanding lead 17-7. The game then turned with Shonah winning 7 of the next 10 ends, pegging back the lead and keeping Jodi on 20 for the last five ends. After a long 28 ends Jodi won the game 21-17.
Round 2: Shonah Buckley v Demi Konig. A very even game with both players winning alternate ends for Shonah to be up only 10-8 on the 9th end. A series of 1s and 2s by Shonah saw the gap widen, with Demi putting in some beautiful bowls but being down at the end 10-21.
Round 3: Demi Konig v Jodi Neindorf. Jodi played a very strong draw game until the 15th end. Demi then played a succession of wonderful drives and up shots to change the momentum of the game. Jodi’s draw game came back and she won the game 21-11.
The results saw Jodi Neindorf become our Women’s Novice Champion with two wins and Shonah Buckley Runner Up. These three young women were amazing competitors, displaying a high level of bowls and outstanding sportsmanship. Match Committee congratulate them and wish them well in their future in bowls.
