Womens Pairs Championship 2023/24
On Wednesday 6/12/23 this event was held with 20 players competing and enjoying a perfect morning for bowls. Because of the number of entries, it was decided to play round 1 as a straight knockout.
Those through after round 1 were: Lorraine Clarke and Jan Goddard with a comfortable win of +8. Jan Cook and Liz Marshall with +3, Larraine Brickell and Sue Delavale with a +12, Jennifer Page and Shirley Palmer with +17, Kath Harris and Charmain Harris with +7.
Round 2 commenced in the afternoon with a gusty afternoon sea breeze to contend with for our teams. Harris v Palmer – Team Harris lead the challenge with
Jennifer and Shirley working hard to match their am form. The score was 10/11 on the 13th end. Then the Harris team fort hard to win the final 2 ends resulting in a score of 14/10 to the last years champions.
Team Delavale v Goddard – This game was dominated by team Delavale who were off to a good start and were enjoying one of those when they could not do much wrong with a rewarding result of 21/8.
Friday 5/1/24 Semi Final and Finals round 1 saw Jan Cook and Liz Marshall v Kath Harris and Charmain Harris. What a great game ending with the 17th end having both teams on 11 points each, so it was whoever won end 18. Charmain decided not to play her last bowl as she throught her bowl was the winner, However, after both Jan and Charmain did several measurements, they decided to play another end which resulted in the Harris Team winning with a 13/11 score. This Semi Final was played with great sportsmanship by both teams to come to this conclusion.
The Final was played after a quick lunch break with Sue Delavale and Larraine Brickell v Kath Harris and Charmain Harris. The score was 6 points each on the 8th end but the Harris team managed to pick up two 5 points , one on the 9th end and again on the 12th end. Sue and Larraine put in a great fight but the Harris team went away with a 22/9 win to once again walk away with the Pairs trophy and putting them as 2024 Women's pairs champions yet again this year. 2 in a row
