Women’s 100 Up Championship

Wednesday 19th October saw the start of the first Women’s Championship event for the season, with 24 entries for the sectional play event of eight sections.

A warm 30 degree day was predicted and each player played two rounds, some bowlers delivering in excess of 150 bowls over the day. There were several close games with some winners narrowly getting to 100 by just a few points, which led to great bowling all around.

Round 3 was played after the lunch break, resulting in Match Committee declaring the eight players who will continue to the quarter-finals to be played the following week, followed by the semi-finals and final.

Day 2 of the event started with 6 only players playing off in the knockout due to the late withdrawal of Coral Smith. This allowed Jennifer Page to progress to the semi-final.

In the knockout we saw three competitive games taking 18 ends to declare the winners to progress to the semi-final. Players progressing to the semi-final were Tracey Newman, Lee Leach, Sandy Everest and Jennifer Page.

Sandy vs Jennifer was a close game until the 15th end where Sandy took the initiative and managed to hold on for a well deserved victory.

The second semi final saw Lee Leach taking on Tracey Newman. This was another close contest but like the first semi, Lee managed to gain the upper hand at end 15 and held on to win and progress to the final against Sandy.

In the final, Lee got off to a great start and pulled away to a commanding lead. Sandy fought back but was unable to bridge the gap at the end and Lee was crowned the Ladies 100 Up Champion, 100-90.

Congratulations to all involved.
