Dash for Cash

A bright, sunny but cool winter’s day greeted the 22 teams of men that took to the greens on Saturday 25th June for the second Dash for Cash for the year. Dash for Cash has been running for 11 years now, and continues to be sponsored by SAFEWAY SECURITY SCREENS (thanks Barry and Paul Bradshaw). The event now attracts significant numbers of “foreign” bowlers from outside Sorrento, and this was the case again on Saturday with 30+ visitors joining our Sorrento players.

After the two morning rounds of 10 ends each, six teams had won both games. The players then adjourned for the traditional soup-and-a-roll lunch, again generously provided by our volunteer ladies. On behalf of our bowlers, enormous thanks to you, ladies, especially Wendy Saul who coordinates the day.

Resuming for the afternoon rounds, only one team (pictured above with sponsor Paul Bradshaw) managed to win all four games, with eight teams achieving three wins. With help from Anne and Trevor Orton, over $2000 in prize money was determined and distributed.

A full list of all winners is shown below.
Overall 1st 4 wins plus 22 shots Matt Sharrett, Gary Bayne, Barney Fleiser and Peter Flack (pictured above)

Thanks again to all who helped make this a very successful day. The next Dash for Cash is scheduled for Saturday 30th July.

Bowler of the Year

Last Friday night, Bowls WA held their annual Awards Night Dinner at the Royal Perth Golf Club.

It was no surprise to many that Bruce Eagles was awarded the Male Over 60s Bowler of the Year. During the 2021/22 Over 60s season, Bruce won the Men’s Singles, was a semi finalist in both the Men’s Pairs (with Greg Taylor) and Men’s Triples (with Greg Taylor and Ian Linford) and a quarter finalist in the Mixed Pairs (with Lee Bunney of North Beach).

An outstanding season which deservedly resulted in the award. This is the second time Bruce has won this Over 60s award, having also claimed it in 2018. Well done Bruce!
