End of an Era

This Friday night will see the end of an era at Sorrento Bowling Club with the closing down of Silver Fern Catering.

From the early 90s, catering at Scarborough Sports Club, until their final roast meal this week, Ross and Trish Cunningham have been renowned for not only their great food, but a genuinely friendly and caring attitude towards everyone they meet.

Since 2013, Silver Fern Catering has been an integral part of the Club’s operations and both Ross and Trish valued members and pennant players.

While Ross had always planned to retire this year, COVID-19 restrictions meant that Trish was forced to reconsider the business’s future. And so the decision was made that it was time for a new and exciting change…whatever that may be!

Sunday Scroungers

With the sun finally shining on a Sunday, it was time to start Sunday Scroungers for 2020. A small but enthusiastic group of bowlers gathered to battle it out on the green, with some really close rinks. Danny struggled a little with his arithmetic but was forgiven as it was fairly early on a Sunday!

The final was a close one, with Graeme playing some great shots but Helen taking the win with her final bowl.

Many thanks to Glenn and Trish for supplying the sausages, onions and buns (and cooking too) and to the club for the weekly donation of a $50 drinks voucher.

Sunday Scroungers is a fun way to play bowls – either put your name up on the board or just turn up by 10.15am for a 10.30am start (final day on 13th September).

Birthday Celebrations

Family and friends gathered at the club recently to help Kevin Scammell celebrate his 90th birthday (pictured here with Beth McCormack).

What a milestone!

With a function room that can accommodate up to 120 people seated (and more with limited seating), kitchen and bar facilities, Sorrento Bowling Club is the ideal choice for birthday parties, anniversaries and other celebrations.

AGM

Our AGM was held on Sunday 2nd August with a great turnout of members.

In particular, President John Abercrombie welcomed our honoured patrons Mayor Albert Jacob, Deputy Mayor (and Sorrento member) Russ Fishwick and Tony Krsticevis MLA, thanking them for their time and ongoing support of our club.

Congratulations also go to John Abercrombie whose Life Membership was announced at the AGM.
