Women’s Veteran Singles
This event was held on Wednesday 5th October with rain threatening and a cool wind blowing for most of the day. We had twelve members participating in this Sectional play event.
Round 1 Winners were Lorraine Hyde, Pauline Marsden, Charmain Harris and Robyn Woodward
Round 2 Winners were Kerry Hutchinson, Lee Leach, Wendy Saul and Shona Carter
Round 3 Winners were Kerry Hutchinson, Lee Leach and Charmain Harris
Unfortunately Kath Harris had to withdraw after Round 1 due to a gardening mishap.
Some very close and exciting bowls were played over the three rounds. It was pleasing to see the coming of age of several of our members enjoying the competition for the first time – well done.
The semi finals and final were then played on Wednesday 12th October. On a very cold and windy day, the semi finals got off to a good start between Lee Leach vs Kerry Hutchinson and Charmain Harris vs Robyn Woodward.
Lee and Kerry’s game began with close scores until Kerry scored a four on the tenth end to make the score 11-5. Kerry held onto her lead until the 16th end when Lee fought back, scoring four shots in the next two ends. Kerry then bowled consistently well until the 22nd end where she secured victory.
Charmain and Robyn started off with Charmain winning the first end. Robyn then bowled very well and pulled away to a comfortable lead. Charmain fought back on ends 11, 12 and 13 before Robyn continued her consistently good bowls to earn victory and make her way to the final to face Kerry.
The final between Kerry and Robyn was a pleasure to watch between these two newcomers to the Veteran’s rank. The score was even on the 7th end when Robyn successfully won the next two ends. Kerry then fought back to narrowly lead the way, 18 – 16 on the 22nd end. Kerry continued her good form over the next two end to achieve a well earned victory in a high quality game played in difficult conditions.
Congratulations Robyn & Kerry for the exciting game to watch.
Thanks go to Jan Cook for being Umpire for the event and Wendy Flack who did a great job as Marker over both days. Also thanks to Match Committee to get the first event of the season completed. Well done all.
