Mixed Masters Fours

Sorrento was host to the opening event in the Dynamic Masters Series, the Trevor’s Carpets Sorrento Mixed Masters Fours, on 27th and 28th September. Masters events are open to players who have won a Club or State Championship, and with 32 teams registered the competition was fierce and the standard was high.

Sorrento had three teams win their sections to move into the quarterfinal knockouts. The final saw a composite team of Lee Bunney (North Beach), Shari Solly (Osborne Park), Brad Gillingham (North Beach) and Blake Nairn (Cambridge) win 15-10 in a closely fought game over the Sorrento team (pictured) of Liz Marshall, Robyn Van Mosseveld, Peter Flack and Shane Loftus.

An excellent weekend of bowls by all of our representing players.

Opening Day 2020

Opening Day for the 2020/21 season was combined with Presentations for 2019/20 on Sunday 20th September. A delicious morning tea was provided by the Croquet Club before the official presentation of last season’s awards.

Congratulations to Murray Hulbert and Pauline Marsden for being named Men’s and Women’s Bowler of the Year respectively (pictured here with Club President John Abercrombie).

Everyone then moved out to the green for the first bowl of the season put down by Patrons Mayor Albert Jacob and Tony Krsticevic MLA, along with Cr Suzanne Thompson and Cr Russ Fishwick.

A sumptuous lunch by Rimondo’s@Sorrento then the battle for the Des Bennett Trophy began. Unfortunately, the second game was cut short by rain. Pauline Marsden drew a tough section in the Women’s Singles and had two very tight games, going down narrowly to Kwinana’s Sue Reid 17-21 and Lisa Smith (Perth & Tatts) 15-21 with some top bowls being played by all players.
